Hello,
My name is Nina-Maria (or Nina for short) and I’m a writer, dramaturg and translator. I’ve been I based in Helsinki since 2012, after a five-year stint in Dublin, where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Drama and Theatre Studies at Trinity College Dublin. I graduated from the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2016, with a Master of Arts in Dramaturgy and Playwriting, and have been working as a dramaturg and project lead at Svenska Teatern (one of Finland’s national stages) since 2020.
I was raised in a multilingual environment, and still feel most at home in heterogeneous and international environments. I enjoy collaborating with a wide range of different stakeholders and disciplines. I always strive to be guided by trust and empathy, and to uphold a culture of respectful and supportive communication in all my professional relationships.
As an artist I’m always interested in exploring “the outsider perspective”, and uncovering and sharing untold or forgotten stories. I want my art to offer comfort, relief, insight and joy, without shying away from the more painful aspects of reality. Memory and the act of remembering are recurring motifs in my work, including familial relationships, references to historical events and persons (particularly from culturally turbulent periods), and rituals and religion. I’m also interested in technology and its impact on the human experience.
I have been fortunate to work on projects dedicated to a wide range of audiences, including toddlers, children, teenagers, and adults. I have also had the opportunity to work on projects that incorporate interactive technology and branching narratives, and I’m interested in pursuing similar opportunities in the future.
