An atmospheric collage play set in Helsinki in the 1910s.
Esplanaden (the name of one of the main streets in Helsinki) is a collage-play based on scenes, short stories, novels, articles and poems written by Helsinki writers in the 1910s. The play was directed and developed by stage director, playwright and writer Joakim Groth and premiered at the Swedish Theatre in 2014.
“Så återstår att bli en käck flanör,
som är tillfreds med detta utanför,
att axla kappan och gå åstad
till kvällens mänskoström på promenaden.
En sällsam tjusning skänker esplanaden
en ensam främling i sin egen stad.”— Ture Janson, an excerpt from the prologue of the play
