The Builders
A play about buildings and the people who build them. 14 parts
Rakentajat (The Builders) was written and developed in collaboration with playwright and dramaturge Piret Jaaks (EST) and The European Theatre Collective. The play was staged at Teater Viirus in 2018, under the direction of David Kozma. The script was translated to Estonian in 2019 by Tiina Randus.
The play is the first part of The European Theatre Collective’s trilogy Invisible Finland, and is inspired by interviews with foreign-born construction workers working in Finland. Rakentajat explores Finnish utopias and the multifaceted experiences of the immigrants building them.
“Voidaanko jo ruveta purkamaan?”
‘Tehän puhutte suomea.’
“Me ollaan oltu täällä viis vuotta töissä.”
